Neighborhood Slice: Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn Season 1: Ep. 4 Take a stroll down Court Street, where Italian Mom & Pop shops hold fast amid an onslaught of new, trendy boutiques & changing demographics.
This neighborhood remains a time-capsule of old Italian New York in Brooklyn. Dating from the early 1900’s,when it comprised a large population of “Baresi” immigrants that emigrated there from Bari in Puglia,Southern Italy. Today, little remains of the remnants of those early days,…but a few shops and hardy old-timers that are now in their late 80’s to early 90’s. However,a trip there still stirs up nostalgic memories of these fine old Italian neighborhoods that were once common in Brooklyn and the Bronx and Manhattan three and four generations ago !
