Growing up in the 1940s and 50s in a place called Brooklyn, the center of my universe was located deep in the section called Red Hook. At Smith-9th, the old IND Subway is grandly elevated as the highest elevated station in both Brooklyn and the city, conforming to old regulations that allowed tall-mast ships to navigate the Gowanus Canal. The metal trestles and pillars were constructed in concrete. Like that grand station, so are my memories cast in a concrete. I have a never-dying remembrance of what life was like once upon a time.

Love the stories–hope to get through them all! We were poor compared to now but those days were the happiest when family and friends were altogether sharing what they had. Too bad my children didn’t have that opportunity.

My book APlaceCalledBrooklyn,LLC has recently been completed. We are currently finalizing the photos for each chapter. I know nothing about Brooklyn other than my Grandmother and Mom taking me and my sisters for a very long car ride to Coney Island, where we rode race horses fixed to a track that ended inside steeplechase, then on to the parachute jump.
